The Medication Aide program is a comprehensive course designed to teach students the skills and abilities essential to administering medications to patients and residents in the criminal justice system and long-term care settings. Graduates of this program will be able to effectively communicate the actions and side effects of medications when administering them to residents. They will learn how to safely identify a resident before administering medications, monitor for adverse drug reactions, and follow infection control measures. Additionally, they will be able to apply proper body mechanics when administering medications. Graduates of this program may find entry-level employment as a medication aide in a nursing home or the criminal justice system.
This course is at least 60 days long and no more than 180 days.
140 hours – medication aide course
- To be eligible for the course, you MUST be a certified nurse aide, have a valid high school diploma or GED, and be currently working in a nursing home. Your director of nursing or administrator will need to have a form notarized validating your employment to enter the program.
